Tennessee Needs Real Cannabis, Not Guesswork

When Tennesseans are denied safe, regulated cannabis, they don’t just quit seeking relief, fun, or creativity. Human nature doesn’t work that way. Instead, people turn to what’s legally available — often lesser-known compounds with little research behind them.
We’ve seen this play out already. As lawmakers keep real cannabis illegal, shelves fill up with products like Delta-8, Delta-10, THCP, and others that most people had never even heard of five years ago. Are they legal? Yes. Are they studied for long-term safety? Not really.
Meanwhile, Delta-9 THC — the main compound in cannabis — is one of the most studied natural substances on earth. It has decades of research, medical use in multiple states, and a track record far safer than alcohol.
By keeping Delta-9 illegal in Tennessee, legislators are pushing residents toward more risk, not less. That’s backwards. If public safety really matters, then regulation and transparency should come first — not prohibition.
Tennessee can choose a smarter path:
Legalize cannabis so people know exactly what they’re getting.
Regulate products so consumers aren’t left guessing about strength or purity.
Tax sales so revenue goes back into Tennessee communities, not black markets or out-of-state corporations.
The truth is simple: when safe choices are taken away, unsafe ones fill the gap. Tennessee deserves better than playing chemical roulette while other states move forward.
